Education

The Foundation for Support of Reforms in Ukraine promotes the development of education, because education is a strategic investment in the future. In particular, we launched Go Global, one of the first major government-public initiatives that raised the issue of low foreign language proficiency in Ukraine and proposed a systematic solution. 

The Foundation for Support of Reforms in Ukraine supports education reform projects: Go Global foreign language initiative, hub schools, school deregulation, inclusive education IT system, national electronic education platform, and quality assurance in the New Ukrainian School.

Go Global achievements: 

  • Foreign language proficiency recognised as a priority of state policy; 

  • 2016 declared the Year of English in Ukraine;

  • Language requirements for civil servants enshrined in law; 

  • Pilot language standards introduced at the NBU; 

Support for the transformation of school education  

Also, we joined the school education transformation through support from the Ministry of Education and Science: 

  • Project office for ‘“Hub Schools” (2016) — helping to reorganise small rural schools by creating successful examples of ‘hub schools’ and showing how they benefit students. 

  • School deregulation (2017) — legal and expert support to the Ministry of Education and Science in simplifying school management procedures; preparation of regulations and orders to update the regulation of the school environment. 

Development of inclusive education 

The Foundation has also contributed to the creation of an inclusive educational environment in Ukraine. We developed an IT system based on the principle of ‘money follows the child,’ which ensured transparent financing and monitoring of the education of children with special needs. A pilot implementation was carried out in the Zaporizhzhia region, including system testing and user training. 

Electronic education platform 

Another important achievement was the creation of the National Electronic Education Platform in 2018. It was the first step towards overcoming the lack of quality electronic resources needed to implement the new curriculum of the New Ukrainian School. 

Ensuring the quality of school education 

In 2019, we supported the development of a quality assurance system for school education. 

Thanks to this initiative, the following were developed: 

  • Quality assurance system at the Ministry of Education and Science (officially established with the support of EDGE experts);  

  • A quality assurance manual for secondary schools; 

  • Requirements and recommendations for quality assurance;

  • A form for observation during classes. 

The educational projects of the Foundation for Support of Reforms in Ukraine laid the foundation for modern, accessible and high-quality education. Their impact is still felt today.
