On 5 March, the International Trade Forum was held, initiated by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine in cooperation with the NGU ‘Foundation for Support of Reforms in Ukraine’ and with the support of the German government.
The forum brought together about 200 entrepreneurs, heads of business associations, and subject-matter experts from various industries.
The purpose of the Forum was to discuss the priorities of the future Ukrainian export development strategy, peculiarities of foreign trade on the way to the EU and in the conditions of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, as well as to find sustainable and effective economic solutions.
Jens Adam, Director of Sustainable Economic Development at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Ukraine, delivered a welcoming speech: “Our donors, especially the German Government and the European Union, remain determined and highly motivated to continue the comprehensive support to the Ukrainian economy and the Ukrainian government on its path from a close trading partner of the European Union to a member of the European Union's internal market. Today's Forum represents an important step forward on this journey”.
During the Forum, Taras Kachka, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine and Trade Representative of Ukraine, presented the priorities of the future Export Strategy:
🔸 Strategic goal 1: Increasing exports and improving their structure;
🔸 Strategic goal 2. Strengthening state capacities, institutions and tools to achieve the set objectives of export development, in particular expansion to target markets;
🔸 Strategic goal 3: Creating favourable conditions for export activities.

The draft of the new national Export Strategy is currently under development and will be presented for public discussion in April.
In addition to discussing the priorities of the future strategy, the Forum participants also discussed the development of EU-Ukraine trade in the context of European integration, challenges and opportunities for Ukrainian trade after the EU accession, recommendations for improving logistics, scaling up national exports through foreign investment, and successful stories of entering foreign markets from small and medium-sized enterprises.
